Enhancing Community, Convenience, and Economy in South Mountain Village.
First New Life Empowerment Enterprises (FNLEE) exists as a for-profit arm of First New Life Church to expand its economic influence in the surrounding community.
FNLEE is purposed to spark other market participants to also make economic investments in this target area.
FNLEE seeks to improve the quality of life in South Mountain Village by promoting community, convenience, economic growth and energy justice.
FNLEE aims to create, with the development of the highly anticipated Henry L. Barnwell Multi-Use Facility, a collaborative approach that improves the quality of life, socially and economically, for all who are involved in building, sustaining, and residing in the mixed-use facility. We desire to create an environment that encourages leisurely outdoor activities in green spaces and preserves the unique character of the neighborhood.
By leveraging public and private investments and partnerships, this project will also create vibrant retail spaces, increase access to healthy, affordable food options, provide employment opportunities, foster economic mobility through business incubation services, and support local small business owners.
FNLEE is dedicated to being a trusted partner in the South Mountain Village area.

First New Life Missionary Baptist Church originated in Maricopa, Arizona in 1951. In organizing the church, Reverend Murray, Reverend Watt Jones, Reverend Holden, and Reverend Eastman asked for the assistance of a Euro American minister, Reverend Snowdon who had already established a church. And so, First New Life started at a cotton-picking camp. During this era a cluster of families would move near a cotton field and live in a one- or two-bedroom cabin during harvest time. When the crop was gathered, they relocated to another area. The church’s membership primarily consisted of two large families. Reverend Henry L. Barnwell was installed as Pastor on May 28, 1967.
Since its inception, First New Life Church has focused on providing spiritual guidance, community outreach and economic development within the South Mountain Village area. The creation of FNLEE was a natural expansion of the church’s mission and vision for its surrounding community.
